The year 2021 came into being rather quietly for me. It was almost unnoticed. For my family there were no celebrations, no fireworks or setting up late to welcome the new year. In fact, I went to bed a whole two hours before the new year made its scheduled appearance and then a few minutes after midnight the Spirit woke me up to pray.
This time of year is when many of us make our new year’s resolutions. I guess I am no different in the sense that I found myself in a very reflective and repentant mood, thinking about what God had in store for us. As I prayed there was one dominant thing that I felt in my spirit for 2021: More of You and Less of Me. This has been the heart of all my prayers ever since.
There are so many places to go with this thought but I will only mention a few that I have been focusing on:
- I want most of all to let go of more of my humanistic nature.
- To be completely surrendered daily to his will and vision for my life.
- To daily let go of those things that prevent me from growing in the ways of God; pride, fear, responsibilities to name a few.
- To be less concerned with my earthly life and more in tuned to the mission of God.
- To be more aligned in my daily life to the heart and mind of God, not just for my life but for my family, my community and the world at large.
So naturally I have been thinking about how to go about this. As I pray each day I am looking closely at the things I need to let go of, the things I want less of. These include things such as fear, worry and doubt. I am also asking for more of the things I believe will help me in my desire to fulfil God’s will in my life. Things such as love and concern for those around me, boldness and faith. This year I want to have an open mind, to be willing and ready for the things God wants me to do. I want always to be listening for his voice, to be strong and courageous in a world filled with uncertainties.
Let your 2021 prayers transform you into the person God wants you to be. Let them birth in you a heart that is more like His and behaviours that will move you into His will.
